VBH | South China Morning Post

Who created it? VBH was launched by businessman-turned-jewellery and handbag designer Vernon Bruce Hoeksema in 2000. A graduate of Pennsylvania State University, in the United States, Hoeksema worked behind the scenes at Valentino for 16 years.

While at Valentino he dabbled with design. When he left the fashion house, he decided to set up a workshop focusing on accessories - specifically clutches - to fill a void in the market for stylish yet simple pieces. The collection is handmade by a team of artisans using luxurious materials. VBH has become a favourite with celebrities such as Jada Pinkett-Smith, Sarah Jessica Parker and Cameron Diaz.

Why we love it: the brand creates simple yet luxurious accessories that will stand the test of time. We can't resist the colourful alligator-, crocodile- and snakeskin styles or the more classic satin and velvet clutches in rich jewel tones. Hoeksema's signature and most popular shape is a streamlined rectangular style featuring a discreet tuck-in opening that resembles an envelope. Forgoing embellishments, the pieces are made from materials that emphasise colour and texture.

What we'd pick: standouts include the snakeskin foldover clutch in deep purple (below; HK$21,050) and a tiger-striped stringray envelope clutch (HK$16,700).

Where can you get it? VBH is available at Lane Crawford, IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2118 3388 and Harvey Nichols, The Landmark, Central, tel: 3695 3388.
